Installing a live electrical wire is a costly and complicated operation, often involving helicopters and power shutdowns. But that’s not the case with the Neuron from Heimdall Power.

Mads Bornebusch has his eyes fixed on the sky, both metaphorically and literally. He’s responsible for the drone program at Heimdall Power and also worked on the recent pilot project in which Heimdall Power installed Neurons on the power lines between Gjøvik and Dokka. “This is a real game changer. No doubt about it. You might think digitalizing power lines would be expensive and time-consuming, but that’s not the case at all. We simply fly the Neurons up and attach them to the cable. And it’s all done from the ground, making it a lot easier, faster and cheaper than using choppers,” explains Bornebusch.

The sky’s the limit
Today, Heimdall Power’s drones are used solely for installing the Neurons. But if it were up to Mads Bornebusch, this would only be the beginning.
“The Neuron already monitors line capacity and may even predict power failures. [Read about The smart guardian]. I think we’ve just scratched the surface of what an intelligent power grid interacting with intelligent drones will mean for a safer and more efficient power grid. Reason enough to keep my eyes to the sky,” concludes Bornebusch.
