Lithuanian TSO add Physical Neurons to their grid for increased observability.
Back in February Heimdall Power signed a contract with Litgrid for a deployment of our Virtual Neurons in the Kaunas and Palanga regions, a deal that was widely covered by Lithuanian press.
Now, Litgrid are taking the next step in their collaboration with Heimdall Power by adding Physical Neurons to their grid. This action will both create increased observability in the area where the Neurons are mounted, as well as further improving the Virtual Neurons already installed in Litgrid’s transmission grid. In addition to doing Dynamic Line Rating, the Physical Neurons will also be used for asset monitoring purposes on the LitPol link between Lithuania and Poland.

This development is a continuation of an ongoing pilot project where Litgrid is testing new technologies that enable a higher utilization of their actual grid capacity. More available capacity means more feed-in of renewable power and reduced chance of curtailment of wind or solar generation. This pilot therefore has the potential to bring significant value to both Litgrid and the users of the grid in the relevant areas. To the extent that this is realized, this is valuable to both the citizens and industry of Lithuania.
