In their recent report, Strømnettutvalget (The Electricity Grid Commission in Norway) highlight a significant potential for utilizing the current power grid in a better way. We at Heimdall Power have great expectations that these recommendations are translated into actions.
Strømnettutvalget was appointed by the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in June 2021. The commissions mandate is to assess the development of the electricity grid and to propose measures that can contribute to faster and more efficient development of the grid. This summer they delivered their initial report, with a multitude of interesting points for Heimdall Power.
For instance, the commission recommended increased use of sensors to get real-time information about the available capacity in the grid. This contributes to increased operational reliability for grid operators.
Further, they also highlight the need to use sensors for better observability of the power grids´ conditions. This is becoming increasingly important as power-intensive consumption and unregulated production is growing rapidly, thereby challenging operational security.
The report has now been on public consultation during the last months. Our answer to it is called “concrete measures for better utilization of the power grid” and can be found in it´s full form below. There we present our knowledge on utilization of the power grids´ potential, how governmental regulations could accelerate grid optimization and much more.
We hope that one of the final outputs from Strømnettutvalget will be clearer regulations for the grid companies. To enable an efficient green transition, we simply cannot overlook new technologies for the power grid.
